RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

The parish community of Our Lady of Angels is committed to a religious education program that will enable each member to grow in faith and relationship with Jesus. This is both a fact and a challenge.  The entire staff and catechists work together to proclaim and teach God's word. Our programs meet and follow the official statement on Catechetics of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops.  Our curriculum is designed to follow a sequential pattern of faith and moral development and is structured on sound theological principles in accordance with the National Catechetical Directory.

Our classes meet from late September through early May. The grade levels available are: Pre-K through Eighth grade. High School and Confirmation classes are available through the Coordinator of Youth Ministry. Schedules are formed upon teacher availability. Children usually prepare for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist in second grade. They receive First Reconciliation in November and First Eucharist in May. Completion of at least one year in a Religious Education Program is required before a child can be admitted to classes for First Reconciliation and Eucharist. Ongoing Religious Education classes should be a priority for all families.

We encourage parents/guardians to take an active role in their children's religious growth. Faith is God's gift, but the nurturing of that gift goes on mainly in the day-to-day living of family life. Attendance at parent meetings, continuing adult education, volunteering as a catechist, and taking an active interest in what your child is learning are some ways of growing in your own faith and sharing in your child's religious education.

Adult Education Sessions are offered so that all members of our parish faith community can grow in the knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith. The Church, particularly since Vatican II, urges us toward on-going spiritual growth and faith-sharing. We are encouraged to integrate our knowledge and understanding of God with the practical experience of day-to-day living. Thus, hopefully, we mature together as a Catholic Christian community.

The OLA Pre-K/Kindergarten (4 & 5 year olds) Religious Education Program takes place Sunday mornings during the 11:00AM Mass. The class consists of a brief Bible story and lesson, a related craft activity, and a music session. The program is open to all parishioners and runs from late September through the first week of May. Registration can be made through the Parish Office or by calling the Pre-K/Kindergarten Coordinator.

We seek, as always, the direction of the Holy Spirit and pray for openess, faithfulness, creativity and guidance. We ask for your help, ideas, support and, most of all, for your prayers for our parish Religious Education Program.
