ALTAR AND ROSARY SOCIETY

Our main focus is to promote devotion to our Blessed Mother. We begin our monthly meetings with the recitation of the rosary. In October, a month dedicated to Mary, we sponsor a Living Rosary in which parishioners represent each bead of the Rosary. We process into church each carrying a lighted candle and form the rosary around the church.  Each person then leads his or her particular prayer. This is a beautiful tribute to Mary and very moving to those taking part.

In early May, during the 11:00 AM Mass, we ask a member of our Youth Group to crown the statue of Mary. We also invite our new First Communicants to participate in the procession.

Another priority is the weekly care and cleaning of the altar and linens, most of which we have purchased or replaced when needed. We have also purchased many of the Altar cloths and the vestments worn by our pastor as well as several items for the sanctuary such as the crystal wine decanter and candelabra.

Our flower committee is responsible for decorating the altar for special holidays, working in conjunction with the Liturgy Committee. We have purchased new Christmas trees to enhance our holiday liturgies as well as many of the floral arrangements used throughout the year.

We initiated a successful organ fund drive which was joined by the Bazaar Committee and ultimately became the Organ Committee and culminated in the purchase of our beautiful organ.

One of the most important functions we sponsor is our Caring & Sharing Committee that provides a dinner for family and friends following the funeral of a parishioner.

We are also involved in many parish social activities. Together with the Holy Name Society we host a Fall Parish Breakfast to which all new parishioners are invited as our guests. A second family breakfast is usually held in the spring. We are often called upon to host receptions for various functions. In order to make these events a little nicer, we have restocked the kitchen with a complete set of new china and flatware and several serving items.

Our group also has a commitment to reach out to others. We have supported our Youth Group with donations.  In May we sell carnations which support the work of Birthright. Each year at our December Christmas party we try to make Christmas a little brighter for a designated group or family. We have a wonderful time wrapping the gifts we have brought and sharing our joy in giving.

We would like to invite anyone who might be interested to join us.
