A MESSAGE FROM THE EXALTED RULER

Brothers And Sisters In Elkdom,

The rains came down and the floods came up.  How many of us heard that song when we were young?  The first view of the damage, to our lodge was an unreal experience.  Who would have thought this could possibly happen?  We had several members who experienced such great personal loss, The Zitzows, Norma and George (right across the street from the lodge), Lenore Healey.  As your Exalted Ruler I spent a few sleepless nights wondering what our future would hold. How could we help our members?  Then an amazing thing happened.  Our members arrived in large numbers to start the rebuilding process!  It was a rebirth of enthusiasm and spirit.  We would re-open, we would work together to see this through. Project Recovery was born.  I wanted to list all the volunteers in this message.  I am fearful I will leave someone out, forgive me if I do:   Kim/Paul Reger, Sharon/Steve Flint, Mark/ Deb Prindle, Ron Foster, Linda/Gary Koliander, Mike/Val Kelly, Tom Karpinko, Nancy/Barry Graver, Deb Valenta, Jim Bridges, Bob Dussor, Scott Dow, Jason and Bill Beck, Char/Joe Maluchnik, Pat Gaetani, Connie Carle, Kathy Neiss, Helen/Jim Sicignano, Herb Flint, Bill Matolka, Elinor/David Gardner, Ken Jennison, Russ Ryan, Jack Ghinger, Steve Opie, Dino Christopher, Shamus (non-member) Rick Jones (non-member) Jerry( soon to be member.) Steve/Lena Modlo, Don Hathaway, Jack Thompson, Joyce and Patty Fitzgerald, Audrey Lopresti, Wednesday Night Pitch League, John Tokos, Wendy/Tim Turner, Bill/Barb Zitzow, Bill Maney, Alisa and Leanna Beck, Rosemary LaFreniere, Dennis/Karen Gazda, Bill/Bonnie Bayliff, Vern/Marcia Turner, Endicott Elks Lodge, Owego Elks Lodge, Endicott American Legion Post 1700, Shaun Fedoris, Joe/Nancy Wlostowski, Matt/Barb Intrieri, Pat/Dave Chura, Bob Gillette, Marcene/ Vince McGrath, Ed Horvath, and Santa/Dee Claus.  All of these brothers and sisters supported Project Recovery.

I wish to end my message with this thought; We share a common ideal and embrace a common goal. Regardless of any differences, we strive shoulder to shoulder, confident in one another's faith, trust, and commitment.  In the end teamwork can be summed up in five short words, we believe in each other.   I believe this defines our lodge.   Thank you for your generosity of spirit.

JULY  ELK OF THE MONTH

Paul  Reger

In recognition of his planning, research and implementation of our recovery effort.  In addition, as our secretary he also found time to submit all required reports to maintain our lodge's standing.  Paul always goes above and beyond what is required of his position.  Thanks for a job well done.  We couldn’t do it without you!

Congratulations To All Involved

What marvelous progress you are making. (I am glad to hear that Ron Foster and his ‘bottomless tool box’ are back in action!) And I heard about the change in the bar. Great! The traffic flow will be much better; good thinking. That’s the way to turn tragedy into triumph. We’ll be not only back, but back even better. I have also been very impressed with the ‘outside the box’ thinking that Tom Karpinko did with the funding. That is a totally new way of utilizing our own funds and allowing others to funnel their charity dollars to their own as well. Fabulous!! The Elks take care of everyone else, now we can help ourselves as well. Charity does indeed begin at home. You all know how much I wish I could be there in body, but you know that I am always there in spirit. I can’t wait to see it all done. What a great lodge! I remain as always, very proud of you all.

MANY THANKS TO OUR FRIENDS IN THE COMMUNITY

A young couple with three children drove into the parking lot, The mother and two of the children got out of the car and handed us two boxes full of water, fruit and granola bars.  They have been driving by every day watching how hard everyone was working and wanted to do something to help us.  We thanked them profusely, it was just the shot in the arm you need after a night of tough dirty work.

This is a great community, I can't wait until we are back in business!!!

MAJOR PROJECTS FUNDRAISER

CAPTAIN N’CREW MINIATURE GOLF TOURNAMENT

Tee Time!  Ready to hit a few?

Our annual fund-raiser for Major Projects is just around the corner, or should I say around the Greens.  Each year we hold a “Miniature Golf Captain and Crew” best ball tournament. The entry fee donation is $15 per player (four person teams) and to sponsor a hole is $25.  Note that experience is not required, not even expected (ha)!

Proceeds will benefit the Cerebral Palsy Associations of New York State, our states’ Major Project.  The local affiliate organization is the Handicapped Children’s Association.

This exciting event will be held Sunday August 13th , 11 A.M. at Skate Estate on Old Vestal Road.  Lunch and prizes are included.

If you would like to play or to sponsor a hole make checks or money orders out to Johnson City Elks Major Projects.  If you do not have a full team we will match you up when you arrive.  If sponsoring a hole please include the text and any logo of what you would like to have printed on the sign at your hole.

Your support is encouraged and greatly appreciated for this all so important cause.

Thank you in advance
